Osteopath

Julia Cawthorne

Welcome — I’m Julia Cawthorne, an experienced and friendly osteopath based in Barnsley.
For over 38 years, I’ve been helping people of all ages — from tiny babies to great-grandparents — overcome pain, recover from injury, and feel more comfortable in their own bodies. Whether you’ve woken up with a stiff neck, are struggling with long-standing back pain, or simply want to keep moving well as you get older, I’m here to help.

Osteopathy is all about understanding how the body works as a whole. I use gentle, hands-on techniques to ease muscle tension, improve joint movement, and support your body’s natural ability to heal. My aim is always to treat the person, not just the problem, so you can get back to doing the things you love.

How I Can Help You

I work with people of all ages and stages of life, with a wide variety of issues, including:

  • Back and neck pain
  • Shoulder, hip, and knee problems
  • Headaches related to muscle or joint tension
  • Sports injuries
  • Postural strains (including from desk work or lifting children)
  • Arthritic discomfort

My Approach

After nearly four decades in practice, I know that no two patients are the same. I take the time to listen carefully to your story, assess how your body is moving, and explain clearly what I’ve found. Together, we’ll create a treatment plan that suits you — whether that’s a few targeted sessions or longer-term support.

I also like to give practical advice you can use at home, from stretches to posture tips, so you feel more in control of your recovery.

What to Expect on Your First Visit

Your first appointment will last around 45–60 minutes and will include:

  1. A detailed chat about your symptoms, lifestyle, and medical history
  2. A physical assessment, including movement tests
  3. A clear explanation of what I think is going on
  4. Your first treatment, if it’s appropriate to start straight away
I’ll also guide you on exercises or lifestyle changes that can help between sessions.

Why See an Osteopath?

Osteopathy is a recognised, hands-on healthcare approach that focuses on the whole body, not just the area that hurts. It’s suitable for people of all ages and can often help when other treatments haven’t made a difference.

With 38 years of experience, I’ve seen the difference that personalised, skilled care can make — whether that’s easing long-term discomfort, speeding up recovery after injury, or simply helping you move with more.
